This page contains updates on the Death Unto Darkness campaign released by the Game Team.

* You do not need to memorise all of this information. It is helpful to have an overview of the campaign background. If you are a new player, you may find it easier to involve yourself in ongoing plot if you have an understanding of the campaign context. You can find a summary of the first six events in Campaign 1 - Part 1.
* You may assume your character has access to the IC documents below. The "Sector Updates" and "Conclave Updates" represent IC text which your character has access to through Inquisition archives.

Prosperitas Sector Reports
These are IC reports produced by NPC agents of the Prosperitas Conclave and published to all Acolytes.

* Sector Report I – Covering 586-590.M41
* Sector Report II – Covering Early-Mid 592.M41
* Sector Report II.5 Polarnus – Covering the Weeping Eye capture of Polarnus Station
* Sector Report II.5 Nivalis – Covering the Archenemy siege of Nivalis
* Sector Report III – Covering Late 592.M41 to early 593.M41
* Sector Report IV – Covering early 593.M41
* Sector Report V – Covering Early-Mid 593.M41
* Sector Report VI – Covering Mid 593.M41
* Sector Report VII – Covering Late 593.M41
* Sector Report VIII – Covering Early-to-Mid 594.M41
* Sector Report IX - Covering Late 594.M41 to Mid-595.M41
* Sector Report X - Covering Late 597.M41 following the Silence
* Sector Report XI - Covering Early-to-Mid 598.M41

Conclave Updates
Conclave Updates are sporadically sent out as requests for information, judgements and other details sent Astropathically to all servants of the Inquisition within the Prosperitas Sector. They come from the Conclave of Inquisitors who form the Ordos Prosperitas, the combined body of the Inquisition within the Prosperitas Sector.

* Post-E8 Conclave Update - issued early 598.M41

Prosperitas Gazetteer
These are narratives which trailer future plots and provide colour and flavour about incidents across the Sector. They are written by the Game Team. They do not represent IC information your character has access to.

*Gazetteer I - Dark Crusade
*Gazetteer II - Hope
*Gazetteer III – The Die is Cast
*Gazetteer IV – Seas of Lerwick
*Gazetteer V – A Candlemass Story
*Gazetteer VI – Polarnus Rising
*Gazetteer VII - A Warmaster's Return
*Gazetteer VIII - The Heresiarch
*Gazetteer IX - Within the Silence
*Gazetteer X - Shadows in the Desert

“Neshi! My love? Are you out there?”

Ipip shivered and drew her sandcloak closer around her. The cheap lumen threw jagged, dancing shadows on the walls of the tent as the winds whipped it back and forth. She tried to ignore them, staring down at the orison-beads in her hand.

“Mama, I can hear voices…”

“Hush, sweetheart. There’s nothing out there.” She hugged little Djedi closer to her knees and set his slender fingers on the Aquila bead. “Now, like we practiced. You rise in perfection on the horizon of the sky, living Emperor, Who started life…”

“Neshi! I can’t see you! Neshi, are you there?”

“He’s sad, mama.” Djedi looked up at her through the muffling layers of hides, his mouth a little o of concern. “He’s sad, and he’s lonely, can’t we help him?”

“It’s just the wind, little one.” She guided his fingers from skull to skull, wishing Lena was here, wishing she’d done as she promised her wife and stayed at the mining camp until these unseasonal sandstorms had passed. But after two dry, starving years, the ships were finally coming and going from the shuttleports on the Aur again, and that meant thronegelt in the pocket for the enterprising; and besides, Djedi was old enough now to learn the ways of the empty quarter. “Just the wind.” Sand rattled and scrabbed at the guylines outside with a noise far too much like skeletal fingers. The grox lowed, long and mournful. “Whenever You are risen upon the eastern horizon, You fill every land with Your perfection…”

“Neshi! Neshi, where are you, my love? Come back to me!”

<br> The Opera Imperial, Hive Secundus
<br> Amenophis IV
<br> Imperial Hive World, Subsector Tertius
<br> 5-572.598.M41

On stage, the countertenor was beginning the Balcony Aria in a high, clear voice, carrying over the low and ominous bass from the orchestra pit. The Magos Cantatus raised a baton in each of their long, delicate mechadendrites, bringing the strings up together as the lights dimmed and the volume swelled.

Margarita Setep reclined into the plush cushions of her couch, letting the aching purity of the boy’s voice wash over her as she sipped her amasec. When the lights went up for the interval, she would be the picture of Imperial authority, enthroned at the front of her box with crook and flail crossed upon her chest, straight-backed and stern; but for now, the one-way plasteel privacy screen allowed her to relax and enjoy the pleasure of the music.

Thou dost appear beautiful
<br> On the horizon of heaven
<br> Oh, living Emperor

As much as one could enjoy such a magnificent spectacle alone. She brushed a thumb absently over the faint traces of lipstick on the goblet, feeling the cushions beside her already grow cold with another body’s absence. The piercing solo shifted to a minor key, mournful and lonely.

When Thou hast risen on the Eastern Horizon
<br> Thou art fair, great, dazzling,
<br> High above every land

There was a rustle behind her; the click of the box door sliding open on hushed hinges. She sat up, surprised, her hand reaching instinctively for the digiweapon concealed in the string faience beads at her wrist. It had been generations since a Governor-Castellan had been assassinated, but the Sector was unsettled, and her guards had given no warning–

“Oh! What happened?” She let her hand fall from her wrist as Luisa gently closed the door behind her, warmth bubbling unaccustomed in her breast. “Was there a problem with the shuttle?”

Before answering, Luisa joined her on the couch, sinking gratefully into the cushions she had so recently vacated. She plucked the goblet from her grip and sipped, smiling into her eyes. “Another dust storm. Your auspex people say there’s a high chance of ion discharge and, quote, ‘You may fly if you wish, Governor-General, but it shall be at your own risk, and we cannot guarantee a search party should the shuttle run into difficulty’.” She sighed and shucked off her dustcloak, pulling Margarita against her and tangling her long legs around her. “Tragically, I shall have to see out acts four and five in your company rather than leaving on schedule.”

Thy rays encompass the land
<br> To the very end of all Thou rules

“A terrible imposition on your time.” Margarita let her head fall back against Luisa’s shoulder, closing her eyes in catlike satisfaction as the younger woman’s fingers carded through her hair. “I shall send my formal apologies to your office.”

“Send your formal apologies to my mother,” Luisa laughed, low and breathy, not letting her voice carry. On stage, the procession of priests arrived to escort the countertenor to his barque upon the Aur, each one bearing a jewelled crown of office. The factorum workers in the lottery seats at the back gasped and murmured at the splendour. “She had another suitor for me lined up at the palace tonight. At least this one I can spurn by my absence, without having to endure an hour or two of their company.”

“You shouldn’t dismiss them so quickly.” Margarita’s voice was soft and almost sleepy, but she felt a ripple of tension run through Luisa, and she turned to peer thoughtfully into her eyes. “I mean it. Just because we can’t…”

“I don’t want to entertain suitors and play the good Setep girl.” Luisa’s voice was close to peevish. “When the time comes to produce an heir, I shall simply adopt someone with good teeth and passable genetics. I don’t want to pretend to be courted. I want to sit here and enjoy the opera. With you.”

Margarita relaxed back against her lover and shook her head, smiling softly. “You know the longer this goes on, the more the rumours spread that we’ve some vat-grown bastard hidden away, waiting to claim the Double Crown.”

“Let them talk. Hush.” Luisa dug strong fingers into the meat of her shoulders, and Margarita sighed, stretching like a cat. “Listen to the music.”

Oh Emperor, how manifold are Thy works
<br> In wisdom hast Thou made them all
<br> The earth is full of Thy riches
<br> Who coverest Thyself with light as with a garment
<br> Who stretchest out the Heavens like a curtain!

<hr>

<br> Beneath Consecrated Ground
<br> Amenophis IV
<br> Imperial Hive World, Subsector Tertius
<br> 5-573.598.M41

The stones in front of Aret blurred as another tear forced its way from burning ducts; the sand beneath his knees scraped as he shifted and nearly overbalanced, exhaustion dulling his reflexes. His movement, in turn, guttered the meagre candle in its cage above. Was there even half a centimetre left? He swallowed a sob, the fear churning through his stomach, and raised the little chisel again to return to his task, carving another line of High Gothic around the stonework. Ave St Decessio, who keeps the scrolls unsullied, I have not kindled fire nor flame within the Sacred…

He needed to turn to finish the line, shuffling again inside the cell, balancing himself against the brickwork. Enough room to stand, if he stooped to avoid the candle. Not enough room to extend his arms even halfway to either side. His chest felt tight, and for a moment in spite of himself he pushed at the walls; cried out, the sound muffled in the tiny cell. The tiny tomb. He ran numb, dusty fingers over the litany scratched into the walls, counting to reassure himself, and continued carving. Not kindled fire nor flame within the Sacred Library. Ave, St Sebastian, who reforges and purifies, I have not denied the word of the Emperor. Ave, St Asceline, who seeks the path, I have not led others astray…

A scrape of stone overhead, and a whine of fear escaped before his throat clamped shut. Heartbeat thundering in his ears he stared upward at the tiny gap into darkness; reached up with a shaking hand.

“Please. Please.”

“Finished with your work?”

“No, please, there isn’t enough light - I need more - I need more time, oh please, just let me go. I won’t tell anyone. I promise I won’t, just let me, please let me out. Please take down the wall. I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.”

“Hush, Aret. Hush. It’s alright. You did well.” For a second he felt wild hope bubble in his chest. “But this is, in all honesty, not about you. The carving is complete. I suggest you pray.”

“No, no! Please!” Something else scraped against the stone, and he could smell something strange, almost sweet, metallic. The first drops spattered onto the sand, barely visible; then the thick liquid began to pour and splash, and Aret screamed as crimson blossomed on his white shirt. He flung himself back against the brickwork away from the aperture, retching and shaking his head. The blood was warm, still, and - it didn’t stop. He begged, in between the screams, as it soaked the layer of sand, pooling up around his toes.

“Pray, little artist.” Head spinning, Aret thrashed against the walls, a wordless howl of terror and pain and desperation. The blood was rising faster now, splashing up the walls. It had begun to run in from between the bricks, here and there; dripping into the lines of his carving. How? He knew the wall was all too solid. This had to be a nightmare. It had to be a nightmare, oh Emperor, please. “Pray, or be lost to your Corpse God forever. I care not which, but I imagine it matters to you.”

Even rising into a painful crouch, the blood was creeping up past his ankles. Something in Aret’s chest died, and - sobbing, in the guttering light - he began to trace out the prayers he had inscribed upon the walls, each line forced out in hoarse, broken misery.

“Ave, St Alicia, who strikes down falsehood, I have not broken an oath - ave, St Malcador, who stands at Their hand, I have not cursed the Throne - ave, St Jerome, who defies all torment--”

Above his cell, steady hands held the great urn and poured at an even pace, until Aret’s howls - and, eventually, bubbles - stopped. The echoes had died before him; the passageway fell quiet. The urn was set down with a scrape; and then the soft click of a tile, and the neat, final swipe of mortar. All done, for tonight. At a curt gesture the servitors recovered their burdens, and followed their master back up, out of the catacombs, toward the light just rising into the eastern sky.

This downtime cycle has all of the normal Downtime action options; characters may use their Major Action to pursue their own agenda, perform research, or - if they wish - serve the Ordos Prosperitas. For the latter, a summary of the tasks available is below.

Please use this link to submit your downtime:

DOWNTIME FORM - CLOSES 9/07/2023
Serve the Inquisition - Options
Choosing to serve the Inquisition allows characters to curry favour with the various Inquisitors of the Prosperitas Sector, by volunteering to be directed to specific matters of interest to them. While not offering the freedom of pursuing your independent agenda, this will reliably direct them toward work of importance to the Imperium.

On the OC level, this option is designed to ensure your character is pursuing an emergent plot thread. The downtime return will assume your character is assigned to a task suited to their known skills, without the need for you to engage in OC planning.

Serve the Ordo Malleus - Pursue information on Traitor Astartes
Lord-Inquisitor Aetós has conferred with the Prognostication Engines in the Inquisitorial Orrery regarding new and emerging threats that the Archenemy has presented us with following two confirmed contacts with Traitor Astartes by two Inquisitorial Acolyte task forces. The increasing presence of these malign fallen Angels of Death represents a significant strategic risk, as loyalist Astartes presence in the Prosperitas Sector remains piecemeal at best. Agents of sound will and strength of soul, who are not otherwise engaged, are to be dispatched into the fringes of Eye-Storm Tenebris to investigate amongst the foul heretics and mutant detritus to see if information can be retrieved from behind enemy lines.

Serve the Ordo Hereticus - Investigate Serpent Cults
Inquisitor Zahid, with the support of Inquisitor-Militant Corvinus and Inquisitor Rilke Haslinger, formally expresses her concern about the continuing activities of Serpent Cults throughout the Sector. She petitions the Conclave for assistance. Agents who are not otherwise engaged are requested to follow up a series of leads connected with recent unrest on Midsummer and Letifer. Divinatory intelligence indicates that these recent uprisings may form part of a larger pattern, with the omens suggesting possible Cult activity in all three Subsectors.

Serve the Ordo Xenos - Scout the Impossible City
Lady-Inquisitor Duplesis has requested Xenospecialists and Alien Hunters without current taskings to rendezvous aboard her personal vessel to coordinate a concerted effort to counter the growing threat of the degenerate Aeldari subspecies known as the Ishari. The Ishari dwell within other dimensional space adjacent to the Prosperitas Sector. Little is known of the race at this stage save what a few have deigned to share - they are known cultists of the Malleus threat known as Objective Scenic, have been noted to possess malefic powers equivalent to those who follow the Dark Gods, but little further is known. This is primarily an information gathering mission into the fringes of other dimensional space with the possibility of opportunity kill missions should any high value target be located.

Serve the Minor Ordos - [Redacted]
Inquisitor Weller, of the Ordo C[redacted], formally requests the assistance of a number of scientific and technologically minded Agents - [the remainder of this message has been redacted]

[under the protocols of the Agreement of Kasterborous m.33, signed in order to end the [Redacted] War between the Holy Ordos over the legitimacy and activity of the Ordo [Redacted] ++error chronological data corruption over inconsistent use of singular and plural detected++ - all Inquisitorial Agents volunteering do so under the knowledge they will be bound by the Agreement of Kasterborous m.33 and the Ordos [Redacted] ++error chronological data corruption over inconsistent use of singular and plural detected++]

CURRENT DOWNTIME: DOWNTIME E7/E8 - Closes 9/07/2023
</div>

Submitting a Downtime
* The game team will email a link to a Downtime form to the email address you used to register for the last Campaign event you played or crewed.
* You will have the opportunity to write a brief freetext paragraph detailing what you want your character to achieve and how they are going about it.
* You will receive the results of your Downtime action by email before the next Campaign Event you play.

Downtime Actions
A character can perform ONE Major Action and ONE Minor Action.

* Major Actions represent the pursuit of plots and investigations outside Campaign events. They may provide greater insight to lore; an opportunity to tie up loose ends that you did not have time to complete during the game; or to pursue opportunities and areas of the setting that we won't necessarily explore in either the main Campaign Events or a Tales Event.

* Minor Actions are only available to characters with certain traits.

Cooperation
You may choose to cooperate with other character on a downtime action. If you do this, it is most likely that you will receive a shared writeup of the results of your action, with a small personalised section detailing specific activities unique to your character. Numbers are no guarantee of success, and you should not feel OC pressured to combine your downtime action with others in lieu of pursuing your character's goals.

Major Actions
All major actions come with a level of IC risk. Your action may fail, and there is always a risk of having ongoing roleplay or mechanical effects carrying into play.

* Serve the Inquisition - This is a Game Team guided option that will allow your character to build their reputation with the Inquisition by undertaking a task that the Inquisitors need dealing with. This is an option for being guided towards ongoing plots. It will result in further details on an ongoing plot, and will strengthen your ties with the Inquisition.
* Pursue an Agenda - This is a freetext option that allows you to pursue an Agenda of your Character's choosing. It is suitable for instances where you want your character to do something action-orientated such as pursuing a foe, investigating a location in person, and so on.
* Research the Archives - This is a freetext option that allows you to Research a topic of your Character's choosing. You must possess a relevant Lore Discipline and Specialism relating to the topic you are doing research on. Even this option is not without risk: even in a library, for example, there are records that can twist the mind and soul.

Minor Actions
Minor Actions are provided by certain Traits. They represent access to specialised resources that are not easily represented in uptime, and so are better represented by effects during the downtime period.

Currently the only traits that grant Minor Actions are Spymaster and Trader which both give the option to ask a specialised group of contacts a question:

* Spymaster - Whispers: You are tapped into a network of spies and informants that stretches the Prosperitas Sector - during a downtime cycle you have the opportunity ask your network a single question
* Trader - Carousing: You are tapped into a network of traders who travel the Prosperitas Sector - during a downtime cycle you have the opportunity ask your network a single question.

For the purposes of establishing whether you have access to a Minor Action, your trait build is considered to be the build you played the last Campaign Event with. If you change your build between events to include the Spymaster or Trader traits, these will provide you with access to a Minor Action after the next Campaign Event you play.

Jay:

See Also:
* Psychic Powers List

Psychic Powers come about from mutant Psykers tapping into their abnormal awareness of the other-realm known as the Warp and channeling its energies to alter reality at their whim. Feared and distrusted, they are bound as virtual slaves to the Imperium and taught Rotes to focus their minds on achieving a particular outcome such as blasts of devastating energy, reading the possibilities of the future, altering minds or reknitting flesh. The fear they are treated with, however, is justified for their powers come with the dangers of mutation, madness and worse.

----

Psychic Powers
Every Psyker manipulates the warp differently. Some use it to brute-force devastating energies into the universe, others to influence minds, and others still to alter fate and probability. Though, in theory, the possibilities of what one can achieve with warp energies is infinite, the human mind is narrow: its ability to shape the energy of unreality into reality is limited by the creativity and imagination of the psyker. Because of this, most Psykers find it easier to shape reality in one way rather than another and each Psyker is different due to their own personal experiences. Psykers' methods of manifesting their warp talents are roughly categorised by the Imperium into Psychic Powers or Rotes that represent the commonly known effects of these manipulations.

At their basic level Powers do not tax a Psyker to use. Many have options of effects you can use if you Push them further, representing a Psyker extending their will to affect reality.

As soon as they get a chance, after a period of time where a Psyker has used their powers, they must do a Power Test. They must do an additional test for each time they Pushed one of their powers.

If a Psyker has no willpower remaining when it comes to making Power Tests then they are considered to be in a particularly dangerous position - The probability of their power tests flips with a 75% chance of failing rather than 25%.

When you fail a power test you draw a card from the Warp Phenomena deck.

Each Psyker must choose four powers from the Psychic Powers list.

----

Warp Phenomena
The infinite power offered from the Warp is not without consequence. Even Psykers, with their innate ability to manipulate it, are vulnerable to the fickle nature of its energies, which can demand a horrendous price from their minds and bodies to channel its eldritch power.

This risk is represented by the Warp Phenomena Deck. This deck consists of:

* 50% of cards are Phenomena side effects that represent a successful use of a power but with unusual side effects.
* 25% of cards are Perils of the Warp that represent a horrendous consequence for tapping into these chaotic energies. These are usually effects personal to the Psyker.
* 25% of cards are Major Perils that represent a cataclysmic consequence for tapping into these chaotic energies. These are usually effects with consequences to the entire party.

----

Psychic Rituals
Psykers are capable of welding the energies of the warp into all sorts of shapes and forms but it is not possible to simply create a spontaneous effect. Significant preparation is required during which a Psyker explores various theories, considers the techniques used to create other similar effects, and tries to take into account the many variables that might affect the flow of warp energies during such a ritual.

In addition to the time involved in planning such a ritual there will be a cost, likely spent in Willpower or, depending on the nature of the effect you are trying to achieve, other Resources. The result of this investment of time and energy is a Psychic Ritual.

You must hand a written description of what you are trying to achieve to a member of the Game Team. It will be considered and you will get an answer as to whether it is possible and the cost required to perform it. You may submit this before an event.

Once a Psyker has successfully created a ritual then they know the time, effort and components needed to replicate it again.

The following is a known ritual performed by Psyker-Investigators in service to the Holy Ordos of the Inquisition:

Auto-Seance
An Auto-Seance is the process by which a recently dead body or an object intimately connected to someone who is recently dead can be used to contact their ‘spirit’, the afterimage of their sentience left on reality - enabling them to be questioned in the pursuit of investigations.

Time to Set Up: One Minute

Cost: The Corpse or an item of deep spiritual connection to an individual who has died within the past twenty four hours placed within a Warded Circle. 1 Willpower.

Risk: Do a Power Test before the ritual, if it succeeds the ritual succeeds. If it fails, you draw a Peril and the ritual fails.

Effect: Once the spirit is successfully drawn into the Warded Circle (triggered at any point you wish after setting the circle up once the NPC or Game Team are ready to answer you as the corpse) you have 5 minutes to question it before it fades into unreality.

Suggested Phys Rep: It is common, based on superstition in the Prosperitas Sector, to at least have a pair of throne coins to pass to the deceased, or an enjoyed beverage or other form of comfort of the deceased in order to provide the spirit with grounding calm to aid with confronting the reality that it is dead.

----

Astropaths
For every Psyker judged strong enough for training in the arts of the Adeptus Astra Telepathica there are hundreds sent into the light of the Golden Throne, their vision seared away by the God-Emperor’s psychic majesty. Whether directly exposed to the Throne on Terra or simply to the Astronomicon though another Astropath - they are forever ‘soul-bound’ to the light of the holy psychic beacon of the Astronomicon. They are able to act as its conduit for the sending of messages across vast distances – these are the Astropaths that hold the Imperium together.

Astropaths are a flavour of Psyker that have the ability to send psychic messages over long distances. They do not require a trait, but come with some restrictions:

All Astropaths have lost their natural sight as a result of being blinded in the ritual that created them. Most wear veils or cover their eyes out of habit, but others freely display their ruined and scarred sockets. They still ‘see’ via the warp; some seek augmetics to compensate, but all of them rely on some form of sight that is easily disrupted by electrical pulses or weaknesses of the flesh.

*The call Shock causes you to lose your sight (whether augmetic or supernatural) for 30s.

*The calls Weaken and Haywire causes you to lose your sight until you are able to Recuperate.

This is roleplayed blindness and you should not shut your eyes. A blinded Astropath cannot see to make ranged calls or wield melee weapons, and may not make use of any Traits and Abilities that would require them to read things or see things for them to work.

All Astropaths have access to the additional Sending psychic power in addition to their chosen Powers:

The Sending
The Astronomicon exists as both the beacon of light from the Golden Throne on Terra and rays of ‘Light’ that bathe the warpspace of those worlds within its reach. Astropaths are trained to send messages upon these waves of warp energy, sending them howling across the streams of light to the minds of others who are bound, like them, to the Astronomicon.

Usually a group of Astropaths operate as a single ‘choir’ for this, needing to combine strength to send messages between systems. Player Astropaths are assumed to be superior, individually strong enough to send interstellar messages, but in choir with other PC Astropaths capable of sending messages across immeasurable distances.

The Sending is a Psychic Ritual: the exact risks and dangers of performing can change but normally an Astropath can expect to be able to easily send an Astropathic message to an Astropath within the same system without taxing themselves.

To send to an Astropath within the same Subsector it typically would require three astropaths working in coordination or an expenditure of Willpower equal to the number of missing astropaths. To send to an Astropath in another Subsector of the same Sector it would typically double the needed expenditure of Willpower or present astropaths.
Sending messages beyond the Sector is something best done in downtime as it requires a full-fledged Astropathic Choir to accomplish.

The Warp Phenomena Deck
The Warp Phenomena Deck consists of 48 cards, with effects of varying severity and danger. Players should check the Rules Downloads page shortly before each event to confirm they are still using the most up to date version.
Exorcism (Exorcists)

Jay:

"Exorcism" is a word commonly: bandied about in the Imperium, it is not unknown for the Priests of the Imperial Faith to have those amongst their number who claim to be exorcists. There are many lay followers of the Faith who practice ritualistic "exorcisms" in their daily duties. In the eyes of the Inquisition, these are placebos and theatrical displays to reinforce Faith at best, and the providence of charlatans at worst.

"True" Exorcism is an esoteric practice that relies on rites of Sanctic Sorcery, the rarest form of warp manipulation. It is a secret guarded jealously by the Inquisition and a few other secretive organisations within the Imperium. It is a dangerous, and often deadly, line of work for an Inquisitorial agent, as to grapple with the cloying stuff of chaos metaphysically imperils the soul and body both.

The Ordo Malleus and the Inquisition at large forbids its Agents from exposing Exorcisms to innocent bystanders, who are often euthanised or mindwiped if they witness one.

Methods of Exorcism
In OC terms, it does not matter what exact form the Exorcism ritual takes.

Your character has studied esoteric lores about the nature of Daemons and the rites which cast them out in the process of learning this lore, and is likely to have very fixed ideas about what types of Exorcism are both effective and safe. Your character is aware that Exorcism involves interacting with the powers of the Warp and is therefore not without risk; the training staff of the Ordo Malleus stress the importance of sticking to set forms and rituals to avoid unexpected effects.

Some common traditional methods which are found in Exorcisms are:

* The invocation of the name of the God-Emperor or Omnissiah in Low or High Gothic or Binaric.

* The use of holy water blessed by a priest cast upon the target’s flesh, the application of sacred oils and unguents where the target is mechanical or a machine.

* The use of religious gestures (sign of the Aquila, sign of the Cog) or religious icons and incantation of prayers, psalms and forms of words such as those found on the Prayer and Liturgy page; binaric hymns sacred to the Cult Mechanicus.

* Physical scourging or symbolic wounds inflicted upon a living target – the use of fire and heat has symbolic value to the Imperium.

* Attempting to rouse the Machine Spirit of a possessed machine to resist corruption via extolling its virtues and publicly speaking its great deeds.

Any of these methods will likely be effective, as well as any roleplay appropriate to your character’s background and characterisation.

If your character loses faith in the efficacy of their methods, you must see a Ref before conducting an Exorcism.

If you attempt to carry out an Exorcism while you are Tempted by Corruption, it is highly likely to fail. You must see a Ref before attempting it.

Exorcisms are violent processes; the warp resists being driven from the flesh once it has taken purchase. This makes them dangerous for both the target and exorcist; the corruption might well fight back.

Warded Circles
Exceptionally, some rituals require the exorcist to establish a warded circle. This takes the form of a simple circle drawn in chalk, blood, salt or some other esoteric material. Some players have found it easier to represent this using symbols on pre-made mats or using various props to mark out a circle: this is fine - the general rule is that it should take some time to set up.

In some circumstances we may inform you that we cannot actually draw on floors due to the requests of the site hosting our game; in this case, if you have nothing prepared to represent a circle it is perfectly fine to roleplay drawing one out even if there is nothing there.

Although known as "Hexagrammic" Wards, exorcists are taught to use only decagrams (ten point stars) within a warded circle if they decorate them at all beyond a simple circular boundary - they don't enter it rather placing the target of their exorcism within it.

Combat Exorcisms
While not all Exorcists are combatants, the rites they know can be weaponized to better combat warp entities and other beings who have been corrupted by the powers of the warp. This is via the use of applied Sanctic rites and appropriately blessed equipment that they carry on their person.

An Exorcist may expend ONE Supply or Willpower to:

* Make a single call of SANCTIC KNOCKBACK within melee reach of a foe. The effect of this can vary, from driving lesser warp beings away or out of bodies (often used in the case of possessed corpses and the animated dead) to causing larger and more powerful ones to briefly pause. This might not have any effect at all against some very powerful entities.

* Make up to five calls of SANCTIC WEAKEN, with no less than 10s between them, within melee reach of a foe The effect of this can vary, from having the normal effect of WEAKEN on a target otherwise not normally affected by it, to making mundane weapons able to briefly harm manifested daemons who would otherwise be immune or resistant to them.

These effects can be repeated (at the same cost in Supplies and Willpower) so long as you have Willpower remaining.

This is physrepped by throwing (larp safe) vials of holy water or sanctic salts, miming tossing it on the target (please don't use liquids, some of our kit has electronics we'd rather avoid getting wet), or striking the target with silver stakes or striking it with or brandishing (larp-safe) holy icons against it.

Exorcising Corruption
Perhaps unsurprisingly given their name, the most common role of Exorcists in the Holy Ordos is providing esoteric first aid against encroachments of the Warp upon the mind, body and soul. These are afflictions to which Inquisitorial Agents are often exposed by the nature of the Hidden War against the Archenemy.

An Exorcist can attempt to purge Corruption from another character. There is no mechanical way to tell which 'level' of corruption a character is on: it relies entirely on observing the level of unusual/corrupted roleplay from the individual and the Exorcist making their best guess. They must then bid the correct amount of Willpower (see beneath) to purge it (or overbid to be sure):

* The target of an Exorcism must either be a willing participant, or Subdued or restrained (in a manner all the players involved are comfortable with) in order to be Exorcised.

* A character who is Brushed (1), Touched (2) or Marked (3) Tempted (4) may be exorcised by bidding the appropriate amount of willpower (denoted in brackets) and then performing a 5 minute exorcism ritual.
** The Rituals required to deal with Brushed/Touched/Marked are subtle and usually less obvious. They do not require a Warded Circle.
** A character who is Tempted must be contained within a Warded Circle (see above) and are often quite loud and obvious when performed.

* Before they begin the ritual roleplay the Exorcist performs a Power Test. If they pass, the ritual continues as normal. If they fail then a complication has occurred: they must draw from the Exorcism Risk Deck and work the complication into their ritual. Not all complications cause the Ritual to fail.
** If a Complication occurs that would cause the Ritual to fail, then there is no requirement to perform the full five minute ritual. You can choose to initiate the complication at the best possible dramatic moment.

* At the end of the ritual, the Exorcist should notify their target that if they were at (the level you bid willpower to cleanse) or below, they reduce their Corruption by two levels.
** If the Exorcist underbid and the character was on a higher level of corruption the ritual fails - the Willpower bid is spend regardless.
** There is usually no immediate surefire indication of success or failure - the target may roleplay the weight of corruption lifting from them.
** A character who has been exorcised cannot attack, make calls, or be Exorcised again until they Recuperate.
** A character who has Embraced Chaos must accept the Emperor's Judgement from the Exorcist, roleplaying demonstrating regret for giving into temptation and suffering the effects beneath. However they can choose to hold onto their corruption and expend one willpower to cause the Ritual to fail, remaining corrupted.

A character who is tainted by the effects of the Warp can usually be Exorcised without significant permanent effects. The Exorcist's methods may leave them scarred, or the Exorcist may choose to impose a Penance upon them to assist in keeping their soul pure. However, in general these Exorcisms do not require lasting mechanical effects on the subject to be successful.

The Emperor's Judgement
A character who has Embraced Chaos by using one of the boons offered to them by the Dark Powers, or by casting off negative effects by willingly jumping to their Tempted level, must face The Emperor's Judgement.

* Roleplaying The Emperor's Judgement: Exorcisms for characters in this state are typically more extreme, more painful and require physical damage to be inflicted upon the subject, either by the Exorcist or at their direction. They always require a Warded Circle.

* Physical consequences: As a result of their brutal scourging, characters who have undergone The Emperor's Judgement cannot exceed half their maximum Endurance for the remainder of the event.

* Spiritual consequences: The Exorcist must assign their subject a penance. This is a pattern of behaviour they must follow to protect themselves against the temptations of the Warp. For example, they might be required to pray after every battle, or to act as a servant for one of their fellow Imperials. This penance is usually calculated to specifically offset the Temptations of the Dark Powers facing the subject.

* Should the subject fail to follow this penance, or willingly break it, they have willingly fallen to Chaos. They gain one use of their Tempted boon and immediately become Overwhelmed.

Exorcising Possession
Possession refers to the act of another sentience entering a body and subsuming control of it. Beings of the Warp, including Daemons, use it to enter reality but some particularly sinister Psykers and other beings have been known to do it too. This requires a different approach to cleansing a body of the taint of the warp: unlike in the case of Corruption, there is another (potentially quite powerful) entity resisting the Exorcists. If it does not wish to, or cannot willingly, leave the body it must be purged at great risk:

* The Possessed body must be Subdued, Bleeding or otherwise unable to move freely and must be kept within a Warded Circle for this to work.

* Up to three Exorcists may participate in this Exorcism.

* Exorcists must blindly bid an amount of their willpower to purge the entity possessing of a body that may be pooled from every Exorcist involved.

** If you underbid the entity you must draw from your deck until you get a card that causes you to fail the ritual. If the Card has a method to resist its effects, you cannot use it. The ritual has failed, you may continue the ritual roleplay in order to trigger the complication when it would be most dramatic to do so.
*** If you draw Possession or Greater Possession the ritual succeeds and the target is free of the entity - you on the other hand...
*** If you know the True Name of the entity possessing the individual you may redraw your card and pick the one you prefer to suffer.

** If you outbid or match the willpower of the entity then before you begin the ritual roleplay each Exorcist performs a Power Test. If they pass, the ritual continues as normal; if they fail then a complication has occurred: they must draw from the Exorcism Risk Deck and work the complication into their ritual. Not all complications cause the Ritual to fail.
*** If you draw Possession or Greater Possession the ritual succeeds and the target is free of the entity - you on the other hand...
*** If you know the True Name of the entity possessing the individual you may redo your Power Test on a failure.

* They may then, depending on the outcomes of the complications - proceed as above with a five minute ritual.

* If the Exorcism or Banishment succeeds the being is driven from the flesh it is possessing or from reality.
** All Exorcists and a Character who has been Exorcised are unable to attack or make calls until they Recuperate.

The Exorcism Risk Deck
The Exorcism Risk Deck consists of 48 cards, with effects of varying severity and danger. Players should check the Rules Downloads page shortly before each event to confirm they are still using the most up to date version.
Power Tests
Several traits and abilities request that a character performs a Power Test - this is a test with a 25% chance of failure. In the case of Medical characters this MUST be taken at the end of 30s of Triage to identify if a Complication Card should be drawn.

First Aid
All characters in DuD are treated as being capable enough to aid someone who is obviously bleeding, and of administering Chems at the direction of a Medicae or Chirurgeon. This is represented by the First Aid ability.

Triage
A Medicae or Chirurgeon can perform Triage on a patient.

* Triage requires 30 seconds of Medical Roleplay, followed by a Power Test.
* A character’s bleed count is paused while undergoing Triage. If interrupted, the bleed count resumes.
* If the Power Check is passed, call Get it Together.
* If the Check is failed then draw a card from the Complications Deck, read it and show it to the patient.
** If a card tells you to discard it, treat the test as a Pass.
** A character with an ongoing Complication is considered <span style="color:#DC143C">Bloodied</span>. Their death count is paused and reset to 0 unless they take damage or a Complication says otherwise.
** You must pick an option from the card to resolve the Complication in order for the character to be returned to a healthy state, this is called Surgery.

Roleplaying Surgery
* The Complication card will guide you in the type and duration of Surgery roleplay you must perform.
** Some cards allow Quick Fixes - these can be accomplished by any Medicae or Chirurgeon, get a patient up on their feet or keep them stable, but usually at a penalty.
** Some cards allow Medicae Interventions - these are straightforward and can be accomplished by any Medicae or Chirurgeon.
** Some cards require Proper Procedures - these can only be performed by a Chirurgeon in a Medbay.
* If a surgery card does not specify a duration, it takes at least 1 minute to complete.
* You must give your patient a dose of Opia to remain still, otherwise you should prompt them to thrash and roleplay extreme pain.
* When you have completed surgery, you may call Get it Together unless the Surgery option you have chosen says otherwise.

Medbays
Medbays allow Chirurgeons to resolve Complications with Proper Procedures. They also allow Chirurgeons to attempt more complex procedures with Game Team approval, such as installation of Bionics or conducting Autopsies.

A Medbay is defined as a well equipped medical facility such as a small surgery or a field hospital. Medbays are set up as part of the game environment and in some cases may be deliberately absent to present a challenge to players. A medbay is usable as such if an Officio Medicae Banner is set up in the environment by the Game Team or if the Game Team tells you otherwise.

It is possible for players to bring their own Field Hospital setups with Game Team approval. You must have your own Officio Medicae Banner to set up. You may ONLY set up the banner after getting approval from a member of the Game Team that your medbay is ready to take casualties.

Those who have lived at the fringes of Imperial civilization, outsiders and criminals who know the desperation that it is to survive in the Underhive, Scum are often considered the worst of civilization by their fellow Agents, but that doesn’t mean that they don’t have a value to the Inquisition;

You gain the Arbites Discipline with the Criminals and Criminal Organisations specialism;

* Vulture: After a combat you may search the bodies of the dead, providing your foes were human, and were using firearms or obviously using chems, you may find a Mission Supply on their body. Daemon or Xenos does leave no useful supplies behind - you may not then use this again until after you have Recuperated.

* Rat: You can conceal weapons on your body as such a call of Scan will not detect any weapons you have hidden on your person. A psy-active weapon will still be identified by Warp Scan.

* Weasel: Your life of surviving at the fringes of society have taught you how to keep your head down. you may call Deflect to the first three ranged calls while in cover rather than just the first two. Having the matching effect from Vigilator or Scum is not cumulative.
Ammo-jack
Be they Mechanicus artisans working on weaponry in workshops or underhive scum skirting the laws of the Machine Cult by producing unsanctioned ammunition, Ammo-jacks are technically competent individuals often found in the armouries of the Inquisition preparing all manner of esoteric weapons rounds for use against the horrors that the Inquisition faces in its hidden war.

Be aware if you choose to use this trait and are not a Tech-Priest then you should be careful to observe the rituals of the Machine Cult while doing your work. Though the Inquisition might turn a blind eye to a useful Heretek they are not in the position to defend such individuals from the Machine Cults wrath should it be aroused.

You are granted access to the Mission Supplies pool
This “supply” lasts until used. You may not use this again until after you have Recuperated.

*Special Issue Ammunition: You can expend a supply to issue special issue ammunition to a character with the Special Weapons Training trait who has taken a Bolter or a Shotgun or an equivalent Unique Trait to grant them one of the following effects:
**Kraken Rounds: They may make up to three calls of Bolt.
**Dragonfire Rounds: They may make up to three calls of Burn.
Metal Storm Round: They may make a single call of Boom.
* In addition, there are several rounds available to Ammo-Jacks with specific traits:
** Tempest Rounds (Tech-Priest): They may make up to three calls of Haywire.
** Hellfire Rounds (Alchemists): They may make up to three calls of Weaken.
** Witch Bolts (Daemonhunter): They may make up to three calls of Sanctic Bolt.
Agents of the Ordo Malleus, or those that have received training from them, Daemonhunters are often gathered from those who have experienced encounters with the manifestations of the warp and have lived to tell the tale - a Daemonhunter does not focus on ways to kill daemons as they do not work like living breathing enemies in that way but rather in surviving long enough to do enough damage to them that their forms decorporealise.
Agents of the Ordo Xenos, or those who have trained with them, these agents are faced with a daunting task of facing a myriad of vastly different bioforms and threats in the execution of their work. Overspecialising in their line of work is a fool’s decision, leaving one unprepared against another threat. An Alien Hunter must adapt to the situation, altering their tactics and learning to fight a foe on their own terms.

You are granted access to the Mission Supplies pool

* If It Bleeds, We Can Kill It: Once you have positively identified a species of Xenos you are up against, when you Recuperate you can prepare to face it, adapting your tactics, changing ou rounds in your weapons, and priming the array of technology that the Ordo Xenos relies on. This preparation only helps and affects the Xenos species you have prepared to face you need to recuperate and recalibrate if you want to face a different target - you may call Scan [Xenos Species] to be sure before you make any of these calls.;
** You may expend a Supply to call Haywire up to 3 times against members of your targeted species.
** You may expend a Supply to call Weaken up to 3 times against members of your targeted species.
** You may spend 15s not moving and aiming at a member of your targeted species, if you lose sight of them before you finish your count you must restart again, if you reach the end of your count you may expend a Supply to call Sunder. This ability cannot be used again until you have Recuperated.

----

Armour of Contempt
Preparation is the Armour of Contempt, to face a foe one knows and is prepared for, to prepare oneself and the field of battle favourably to increase one's chances of winning the fight against the foes of the Imperium who often have the upper hand in physical, technological or esoteric strength.

This trait activates only when you select a foe you have encountered before, either at the same event or previously. They must be a ‘named’ foe, even if you do not know their name, a distinct foe who is clearly present. This is your Hated Foe for the event (you can always check with the Game Team if you are ever uncertain a NPC is valid) - when you encounter your Hated Foe in battle you gain the following advantages;

* You gain +2 Endurance for that Combat
* You reduce any Rend calls from your Hated Foe to 1 Damage
* You may call Deflect against one call from your Hated Foe - including Warp but not Sunder
* Once if you are reduced to Bloodied in a combat where your Hated Foe is present you may use Get it Together on yourself, however, unlike normal - this call affects you even if you have suffered a condition that would normally prevent you from using it. This ability cannot be used again until you have Recuperated.
* Should you defeat your Hated Foe then you can select a new one.

----

Kill Team Leader
While the Inquisition might favour individualistic Agents, there are things a bonded team of warriors can accomplish that an Agent of the Throne could not accomplish solo - squads from the Imperial Guard or Imperial Navy are commonly inducted though occasionally tight-knit underhive gangs are brought in for the same reason. Elite amongst these other than the power armoured Astartes of the Death Watch, are the Inquisitorial Stormtroopers in their black carapace armour.

Requirements: To form a Kill Team you must have 2-4 other characters who are members of the Kill Team - all the members of the Kill Team must have matching costumes that clearly identify them as being part of the same united team. No PC can benefit from the commands of more than one Kill Team Leader at an event. If a Kill Team Leader dies during an event, their chosen successor may benefit from the effects of this trait for the remainder of the event. However, should they wish to use it in future they must buy it.

* Orders: Your Kill Team should agree to a set of IC commands, these are cues that allow your group to benefit from any of the following effects. Once you have used one of these commands, you must Recuperate before using it again.
** Team! Take Aim! - If members of the Kill Team are in Cover then any ranged calls of Blam become Rend - this does not count as calling something other than Blam for the purpose of the Abundant Ammunition rule.
** Team! Go! Go! Go! - The team must charge their foe with the intent to engage them at melee range -, they may not make calls or attacks while charging but may call Deflect up to four times - these are lost once they enter melee reach of a foe.
** Team! Gun Them Down! - The team must stand still, they can make up to 3 calls of Dakka before Reloading and expending a Supply.

* The Price of Service: If a member of the Kill Team disobeys a direct order from the Kill Team Leader then they cannot benefit from orders until they have suffered an IC appropriate consequence for their disobedience.

Note: Example commands are provided - however, you are encouraged to come up with your own IC commands, which should ideally include a reference to your group (e.g. "Raivans, follow me!" or "31st Armored, leave none alive!").

----

Savant
(Requires: Scribe)
(Cannot be Combined With: Alien Hunter, Daemonhunter or Witchhunter)
Not all scribes hide away in dusty libraries, some take to battlefields alongside Inquisitorial parties advising them from their vast arrays of tomes, scrolls and dataslate archives that they drag into battle.

Requirements: While using this trait you cannot hold a weapon in your hands or make any offensive actions. You’ll need a prop book or dataslate for your character to read though while you’re standing on the sideline of a fight, your skill is in ducking and dodging while you frantically leaf through your books looking for answers. You can do this only for foes your character has encountered or their Lores permit them to know about, so long as you do this you can;

* Duck!: You’re used to ducking in and out of fights as you consult the tomes, you may call Deflect once - you cannot use this against Sunder or calls with Warp attached. You cannot use this ability again until you Recuperate.

* Hit the Weak Point!: After spending ten seconds studying an enemy NPC that falls into your speciality you may aid an ally to strike at a weak point or make some modification to their equipment to allow them to call Weaken against that foe. You cannot use this again against the same individual until you Recuperate. For example: ‘There’s a small weak point between the second and third secondary ribs, strike there’ or ‘here, take this they’re deathly allergic to it’.

* You’re going to need this…: With thirty seconds of research of a specific type of foe (‘genestealer’ or ‘aeldari psyker’ for example) in combat or out (if you’re willing to predict a particular foe) you may hand something to three companions to protect them. They gain one use of Deflect against the specified foe, this may be used against calls of Warp if you prepare them for a foe that is likely to use the call. You cannot use this ability again until you Recuperate.

* Hit the Books…: If you encounter a recurring foe or a foe with a distinct ability that you need to find a counter for you may with ref assistance, throw yourself into researching it to prepare for another encounter. Using evidence (name, pictures, tissue samples, etc..) as appropriate you can enable an ally to negate that ability, this can include calls of Sunder if appropriate. The ref will advise you of what abilities it has and allow you to forewarn others as well as preparing your chosen target to be resistant to them.

4-731.597.M41 - Fall of the Heresiarch
Initial reports from the surface of Nivalis indicate that Heresiarch Ignatius Grulge and his closest accomplices have been arrested or slain by Imperial forces, news which begins to spread across the planet and sector with alacrity. Templar forces and the Fidelis Militia waver, seeking orders; the loyal and orthodox citizens rejoice.

4-732.597.M41 - The Battle of the High Cathedral
With Templar forces decapitated and wavering, the Archenemy forces on the ground - primarily Barbarians of the Weeping Eye, from the space hulk Durovera's Pain - surge toward the central Cathedral precinct, seeing an opportunity to burn the Sector’s central religious site to the ground and fall upon the undefended civilians sheltering beneath the consecrated walls.

They are sorely mistaken.

The wavering Templar forces fall back into the built-up outskirts of the Cathedral district - and find that at their backs is a defensive hard point. A young Proctor from the Arbites Precinct has rallied the Enforcers based there, arming the local population - and arming and deputising an increasing number of Qwam hunters and local civilian volunteers streaming into the city from the North-West. Arbites shotguns on the open field of battle would have their problems, but in the city’s byzantine streets and against under armoured barbarians, they are able to repulse two assaults across two days of bloody and brutal urban fighting. By the second day, the Templar chain of command seems to have stabilised, and for once in favour of targeting the Archenemy alone, but the defensive lines are rapidly becoming exhausted as the Barbarians spread out, probing the Imperial lines.

As it transpires, a spread-out line of Barbarians is very little match for a detachment of the Imperial Guard. A group of Letiferans, from the First Armoured and First Infantry, conduct a rapid flanking manoeuvre, emerging from cover in the northern hills and simple rolling south down the Eye barbarians’ lines to the cheers of the embattled Imperial lines. The city breathes out--

The forces of the Regency impact into the battlefront. A detachment of what is reported in news broadcasts as “large mutants” - Traitor Astartes, whisper the incautious - smash the Imperial lines to the South-East, forcing the Letiferan Guard to reorient and moving with terrifying speed to spread out and rally the Weeping Eye. The lines begin to descend into mayhem once again, and the Arbites Precinct itself is only saved from one of these ancient monsters by the intervention of a Holy Astartes. A Marine from the Carcharodons Chapter appearing seemingly from nowhere to strike at the invader and draw it away allows the Arbites to hold out another night, then another day. Rumour puts as many as ten of the monsters on the field, and supported by a small corps of Regency regulars they begin to pull the noose tight on the city. Imperial blood runs red through the shrines and streets.

4-744.597.M41 - A World’s Salvation
The Crusade Fleet now besieging the hulk in orbit barely had time to register the opening of a Warp rift before the arrival of a small corvette of ancient design, broadcasting the unexpected ident Òran na h-Eala - and a secondary transponder identifying her with the Lions of Nemea.

Eyewitness reports on the ground indicate that the Lions simply appeared, as if from nothing, with a whipcrack of displaced air and the eye-bending shift of a teleportarium. At least two squads of these mysterious Astartes takes the field; and in the face of organised peer resistance the Traitor Marines withdraw, taking with them the backbone of the Archenemy forces.

The fighting around the Cathedral has been brutal, but the urban centre of Nivalis has survived. The Lions melt away as rapidly as they arrived, their corvette declining all attempts at contact and vanishing into the asteroid belt in the outer system. In orbit, the Crusade Fleet reforms and regroups to begin meaningfully contesting the Hulk’s former void supremacy and setting down additional forces of the Imperial Guard to maintain the momentum established in defence of the Cathedral. Slowly but surely, the Archenemy forces on Nivalis are pressed into retreat.

* Inquisitor Corvinus: Broadly we had been willing to accept that we would have lost the central Cathedral district on Nivalis. We predicted acceptable casualties and likely defilement of the sacred ground requiring future scouring and exorcism. Without the… transition… of the Fidelis Militia - as we will now all politely refer to them in the presence of the Priesthood - to a loyal command, this would not have been achievable; not even with the “Lions” providing support. All modelling by my Office and Crusade High Command shows we are gaining momentum on Nivalis and will likely be able to gain the upper hand on world within the coming months. I suppose thanks are in order. Now get back to work; the wicked do not get rest or time off.

* Inquisitor Valtrois: To second my colleague above, you have exceeded our predicted performance and you should take pride in a job that has been executed to the highest order. I know many of you are in a great deal of pain due to lost companions and comrades; but after facing some of the greatest threats we have seen the Enemy bring to bear on these battlefields, you should take comfort in assurance that you have prevented many thousands of families sheltering within the shield-walls of the Cathedral districts of Nivalis from experiencing similar losses. The arrival of Traitor Astartes bearing the markings of the Archtraitor on the warfront appears to have been as much a surprise to our Astartes allies as it has been to us. This is a worrying development and heralds a new phase in our defence of Subsector Secundus, if a whole warband of our enemy’s greatest warriors are in situ.

4-756.597.M41 - Durovera’s Forbearance
As rumours of the changing situation on Nivalis continue to pour out into the Sector, the markets respond - and with them, the Rogue Trader turned Sector Governor. To the surprise of many, after clearly receiving a rapid briefing on the evolving situation, Hermione Durovera sends a summons to a small handful of scattered noble Houses of Nivalis to attend to her. It is widely understood that one of their members is likely to be returned as the Governor of the world - and widely noted that every single one of them is of mixed Qwam and Imperial heritage, families marginalised by their "lesser bloodlines" and connections to the world. Of further import is that not a single one is an ordained member of the Ecclesiarchy - heralding that the world will very soon be reclassified from a Shrine World to an Imperial World.

* Hermione Durovera (secretly recorded at Court, engaging with her Void Hound retinue): “I am sure the Ecclesiarch is going to be fuming, Battle Brother, but as I understand it he was one of the driving voices of the recall of your vessel stranding you here. I already have to endure that uptight Qwam in her ridiculous uniform on Polarnus, what’s another at this stage, really? I might bark out “Imperium Prosperitas” for the masses, but that’s what they want… let some settlers murder some Annwfyn over land on one world, give the Qwam a home on another, that’s just colonial management. This way I have a friend on Nivalis, my House controls their trade, and I don’t have to deal with any priests plundering my tithe.”

++ Instructions from the Lord-Inquisitor ++
Agents who wish to bring further details of the situation on Nivalis to the attention of the Ordos Prosperitas, take heed:

* The command team of the deployment to Nivalis may, if they so choose, jointly submit a report to the Lord-Inquisitor.
** This report may be of any length; but
** This report must include a no more than one page summary of headline items and any recommendations for further actions.
** Such recommendations will be weighted strongly in consideration of further steps to be taken by the Holy Ordos.

* Any agents with the rank of Interrogator or equivalent may submit a report on behalf of their Cell.
** These reports may be no longer than one page in total;
** These reports may make one recommendation for future action;
** Such recommendations will be considered for action if they do not conflict with the mission command team’s recommendations.

++ Judgements of the Conclave ++
By the writ of the Holy Conclave of the Inquisition in the Prosperitas Sector the following judgements are to be recognised by all parties;

* Heresiarch Ignatius Grulge, rendered unto the judgement of the Ordos Prosperitas by Agents of the Throne on Nivalis, is hereby considered to have been executed at the request of the Ecclesiarch himself. Biological materials from Ignatius Grulge have been shipped to Duroverum to be presented to him upon his arrival in-sector within the next six months. Prisoner-designate “Sebastian” has been remanded to the mercies of the Explicators of the Conclave and will shortly be undergoing debriefing.
** Agents wishing to petition for access to the Prisoner are invited to make contact with their Inquisitor and make a formal request via them in order to agree upon a time-slot for interrogation.
*** All requests must be delivered by 4-787.597.M42 (15th October 2022).

* The Ordos Prosperitas has officially pardoned Hadrian Grulge upon finding him to be an unwilling accomplice in the actions of his Husband. For those sins he has committed he will complete his penitence by acting as a Coordinating Chaplain for the Fidelis Militia.

* Farseer Rávarániel, recovered by Agents of the Ordo Xenos from what analysis suggests was possession by some form of SCENIC-adjacent threat, has been politely returned to her people by request of Lady-Inquisitor Duplesis. Though the Eldar are perfidious and should not be trusted, it would be ill timed to unnecessarily agitate a conflict with them - Agents are recommended to make best use of these alliances where they last.

++ Current Affairs ++
++ Be aware that this information, while available to those beyond the Inquisition – is provided only to your clearance level and should not be discussed with Citizens. The penalty for perversion of ignorance is one hundred lashes at a public corporal square. Repeat infractions will result in execution. ++

++ On Nivalis ++
* The death of Planetary-Marshall Delphina of Nivalis at the hands of Templar excruciators having been confirmed, the High Marshall of Subsector Primus - Kemal Jabez - is believed to have turned their attention to the question of Nivalis. It is on good authority that, based on testimony from Deputy Marshall Enos Rhut, they intend to appoint Lord Teneros Virellian-Volkov to the Planetary Marshall’s role. This is widely seen as a stinging political rebuttal to the position of Marshall-Protector Drusilla Vox.

* While many leading figures among Nivalis’ mountain folk are poised for rapid integration into the changing structures of the former Shrine-World, one is notably absent. Ardeth Fehr has been inducted into the service of Lord Inquisitor Aetos as an Interrogator, and is expected to return to Nivalis in the coming days to support the Qwam’s cooperation in dismantling the Temple.

* On Nivalis itself, the Arbites do not hesitate long before beginning to sweep up those who collaborated with the Templars. Deputy-Marshall Rhut has obtained evidence which leads to dozens of arrests among the local nobility, with a distinct trend toward quickly removing from power the families occupying traditional Qwam land. The nobility having largely failed to contribute to the defence of the city, there is little to no opposition to these measures. Among the most notable Houses whose lands are confiscated, Scions executed or both for overt cooperation with the Heresiarch are House Thornhalt, House Arctheim, House Yaan, House Van Syult, House De Bordaal, House Rathstein and House Rauchstadt. As accomplices of the Temple, all of these families are reduced to penury and disgraced in the eyes of their peers; nobles on paper only.

* The Gearwrights on Nivalis suddenly appear to be everywhere; in the city’s defence and the wake of the fighting, the former Olethran refugees quickly emerge as a functioning logistical infrastructure, arranging mutual aid and sharing the words of their Saint with a population hungry for reassurance.

++ Elsewhere in the Sector ++
* During the Silence, a contingent of Regency forces were able to strike behind Imperial lines, bypassing the Cerastes Salient blockade at Helaerus and making planetfall on Kirckud III. The 1061st Composite (Abhuman) Auxilia, stationed on-world for training exercises, became heavily embroiled in a rapidly-evolving guerilla conflict in the Wildwood of the Eastern continent and were functionally destroyed suppressing the Sovereign Order’s deepstrike. The affair might have been embarrassing for the Salient’s commander, General Astara, had anything more relevant than abhumans been lost. More widespread disruption is prevented in no small part due to tactical flexibility on the part of General Mhairi Ni Crol in leadership of the continent's PDF, as well as emphatic action by Imperial authorities under Governor Aoife mac Sachairi to suppress the Rising Flame and other dissidents.

* The Rising Flame pick up upon rumours of the Imperium moving to install a Ruwwadi Governor on Nivalis and the transfer of power in regions controlled by the Qwam as well as the return of land as an opportunity and proof that if they remain strong even in the face of Imperial brutality the same can be achieved on other worlds contested by the native cultures of the Sector. While undeniably a political win for the Flame this also see’s a cooling off in some areas of the sector the Flame are known to be operating in with local cells encouraging less violent methods of resistance and a reduction in attacks on civilian targets.

* News of the death of Davion Morgante, the Butcher of Shadowglow, is received with glee by the Raivans who repelled his assault on their homeworld. Renewed morale among the Raivans of Cerastes Salient is noted with relief by exhausted commanders on the Rimward front.

* Similarly, the execution of Scyre Parnassus receives an immediate reaction on St Sebastian’s Redoubt. To the shock of the occupying Templars, a violent and bloody rebellion immediately rises against them; ordinarily meek clerks and menials of the station erupt into surprisingly well-drilled violence. It transpires they have been leant backbone by effort of the students of the Scarlet Wing’s Schola Progenium, many of whom are now clearly on-track for the Officio Praefectus. The framework of the ‘sudden’ rebellion was painstakingly constructed over the years of the Silence by a visiting Commissar, Demelza Quinn; rumour has it that the Officio Praefectus intend to bestow the rank of Lord Commissar for her prevention of yet another case of potentially devastating corruption of a Schola class by heretical agents. Few in the Sector entirely expect the Commissariat to accept an Ecclesiarchy governor on the Redoubt again until the ranks of the Ministorum in the Sector have been thoroughly cleansed - to this end the Redoubt currently falls under the governance of Commissar Quinn.

* Elsewhere, rumours of the death of Lord-Governor Egon Gaudin cause immediate alarm on Butonia; the war-torn world sees riots and panic break out as the prospect of a resurgence of the civil collapses and conflicts of the previous decades. With the Templar forces on world being dismantled by the Arbites, a concerning number of Rising Flame banners and sigils are noticed being carried and marked in various areas as the rebel group moves in to provide support for the peasant population while the Noble Houses of the world bicker. At present they stand on the cusp of a succession war that threatens to wipe out the last vestiges of the ‘original’ Butonian lines of Nobility. It is rumoured that House Vilas-Lobo, whose mining world of Bachian IV is just a warp-jump away, is looking for a favourable ally in the fighting to assert rule over the resource-rich planet.

* On Letifer, however, word spreads of the heroism of their Regiments on Nivalis in defence of the Sector Cathedral, and rumours of miracles in the defence of the Shrine of St Lucas Rhein. The stories spread through the hives and sumps faster than any toxin. Some claim that the Letiferan Immortals returned from the dead at the Saint’s bidding, at the hour of greatest need for their kin in arms; Guard recruiting stations find themselves in the rare situation, for a world more renowned for its criminal output, of being overwhelmed by volunteers. For the first time in known memory the planet experiences a brief break in cloud cover over Hive Mohr Holt illuminating the hive in brilliant sunshine; it is considered a miracle and a sign of Letifer’s blessing. Pilgrim vessels begin arriving to visit Hive Mohr Holt shortly after.

* The first Imperial vessels arrive on Merewald, the last Imperial world to be reconnected with at the end of the Silence. Due to the technophobic beliefs of its population spread by the prominent Ecclesiarchy sect the Followers of Saint Ludlam, Merewald lacks long-range communications technology that could have provided any alternative to astropathy, leaving them cut off from even the minimal relays possible during the long years of isolation. As a result, the incoming ships are shocked to discover a world suffering greatly from a series of poor harvests, with famine widespread in some areas. A great deal of unrest amongst the feudal Serfs of the planet has been stoked by the Nobility retaining a great deal of crops that could have been used to feed them, rotting in silos awaiting tithe-fleets that have not come until now. Despite begrudging hostility from the Followers, Arbites forces are permitted to deploy to the surface with full equipment to break up the worst of the discontent and restore order within the farming combines.

* On Kelper Prime, holdout forces of the local PDF spent the Silence fighting a bloody guerilla war against the Children of Tain, supported to great effect by the Fidelis Militia. Reports suggest the world hangs in the balance; the Templar forces stand on the brink of breaking as garbled rumours of the Heresiarch’s fall paralyse their commanders.

* The Crusade Fleets have regathered and begun to regroup to their Salients, and Warmaster Khan’s orders began to flow as soon as the Warp’s corridors cleared once more. How well the Salients have weathered the Silence is variable, but one clear message is broadcast across the fleet: with all of the fragmented pieces of the Navy that limped home to her, Polarnus Stands. Not only did the heart of the Crusade survive the Silence without starving itself, the vessels there have by all accounts refitted and recrewed in unusually good order; the period without transit in and out has been used to reconstruct the emplaced defences and purge some of the nastier mutant, criminal and Weeping Eye holdouts from the station’s darker corners.

* A Scion of the beggared House Monforte is claimed to have been assassinated by Aeldari Corsairs connected with the Circle of Thorns on Carthusia; Ordo Xenos agents are understood to have driven off the aliens, and the matter has avoided drawing significant or accurate attention on the newscasts of the world or subsector.

++ Rumours ++
++ Be aware that the veracity of this information has not be ascertained and carries with it a class-2 warning of unreliability [class-2.information is gathered via un-enhanced interrogation or state surveillance]++

* Scattered reports suggest sporadic attacks on isolated hamlets and outposts to the west of the Cathedral central zone; it is widely believed that the Archenemy has infiltrated a vile servant of some sort into the mountain refuges of the Qwam, and outlying settlements band together in an effort to ward off a beast which cracks skulls and devours their contents in the night.

* A sudden uptick in active counter-Imperial data-surveillance and activity by the Prefecture Magisterium of Naximus Prime has been registered by Inquisition monitors. On diplomatic channels, by contrast, the reclusive Forge World has gone - for want of a better description - a bit too quiet.

* The fighting on the Sector’s Rimward front has slowed the trade in Helots from Caracas, but the latest shipments of the avian beastmen known as Ēkara have brought with them rumours: of ongoing Archenemy assault; of uncanny, spindly, light-fearing monsters in the wilds of the Feral World; of the 3rd Agrial Volunteers decimated and struggling, far beyond the reliable reach of the Imperial front lines.

* Scattered vid clips have made it onto the interplanetary networks, showing what is claimed to be the arrest of Cadmium Redd, wanted traitor and seditionist of the Redd Planet Flip band, while performing at an unsanctioned gig on Monacus. While no official recording of an execution has yet been publicised, the Sector’s Bounty Hunters have withdrawn Redd’s bounty without a claim - and there are whispers saying the Inquisition moved to handle the matter themselves after the guilds failed to apprehend the musician.

* There are rumours that, following the posting of bounties upon several members of House Qureshi, Laleh Qureshi has been summoned before her Naximan Masters to account for involvement of her scions in protection of Gearwrights (considered labour-agitators by the Naximan Priesthood) - rumour has it that Laleh has refused this request and informed Naximus that she is not their dog to be called to heel when they remember she exists.

* There are rumours that the recent upset on Merewald has seen an increasing number of Nobles begin considering welcoming more technology onto the world. It is said that the Followers of Saint Ludlam as well as the more traditional Nobility and many Serfs are upset with the appearance of more machinery in the countryside; but the erosion of Ecclesiarchy authority as a result of the outcomes of Nivalis is likely being felt, as the adoption of technology finally starts to pick up pace on Merewald.

* A detachment of Sisters from the Order of the Eternal Gate - one of the Adepta Sororitas’ Orders Pronatus - have arrived in the Sector, declaring their intent to see relics lost to the hands of the Templars restored to their proper places of veneration. While many expect them to make an immediate move toward Agrial III, in practice they spread out into smaller teams across the embattled fronts of Subsector Tertius.

++ List of Wanted Individuals ++
Be Aware: This list is drawn from Arbites and Coalition of Reclamation and Apprehension Guilds records. Unlicensed pursuit of any of these individuals by someone not an Arbiter of the Lex Imperialis, or a deputised and sanctioned representative [Cit.Ref Enforcer or Bounty Hunter], is strictly prohibited.

The Coalition of Reclamation and Apprehension Guilds kindly reminds citizens that unsanctioned bounty hunters are criminals, and subject to the harshest penalties by Guild Law. The law is for sanctioned professionals. Taking the law into your own hands is against the law.

++ Notes ++

We’re rebuilding a lot of our bounty-lists Hunters, the Silence fucked up a lot of records so confirming that various bounties are still going to be honoured is taking time - it’s frustrating -we know- but at least we’ve got some reposted ones.

The Coalition of Reclamation and Apprehension Guids would like to remind all Hunters that it will continue not to honour any bounties on any individual operating under the name Klaus Hendrickson until further notices.

++ Rescinded Bounties ++

The following bounties are rescinded.

* Cadmium Redd - Sorry Hunters, looks like the Big I beat you all to her. Let’s not give up hope though; it wouldn’t be the first time she’s slipped out of the hands of even one of their Agents.

++ Active Bounties ++
The following bounties remain active for collection.

* House-Scion Mitra Qureshi [Wanted: Alive for Interrogation]
For the Crimes of: Theft of Holy Ordinance and Proprietary Technologies of Naximus Prime, dereliction of duty to the Legio Custodii Incudem, falsely wearing the adornments of a bonded Knight-Scion, aiding of disruptive anti-labour elements and treason against her bound Masters under the Sidon Protocols.

* Magos Aleph 82608 Satyajit [Wanted: Alive for Interrogation]
For the Crimes of: Theft of Holy Ordinance and Proprietary Technologies of Naximus Prime, dereliction of duty to the Legio Custodii Incudem, aiding of disruptive anti-labour elements, and breaking of oaths to Forge and Faith.

* Knight-Scion Archeleus Zahak [Wanted: Alive for Interrogation]
For the Crimes of: Aiding disruptive anti-labour elements, treason against their bound Masters under the Sidon Protocols and association with known Hereteks.

* House-Scion Ki’ara Shahi-Qureshi [Wanted: Alive for Interrogation]
For the Crimes of: Aiding disruptive anti-labour elements, treason against her bound Masters under the Sidon Protocols and association with known Hereteks.

* Channel-Capacity-Is-Proportional-To-Bandwidth Levinson [Wanted: Alive for Interrogation]
For the Crimes of: Violations of the Universal Laws, Impersonating the ident-code of another Forge and association with known Hereteks.

Well, that’s a lot of bounties posted by one organisation, and an unusual one too: we don’t get much contract work out of Naximus Prime at all, and I’ve ‘’never’’ seen either this many or a posting by the Prefecture Magisterium. The money is good, or you can probably get a hold full of forge-fresh gear as pay instead - not a tonne of details on these lot but we’ve got visual idents for the lot of them and a few lists of how they’re modified. Like most red-robes we’re looking at a lot of tech and high-end gear, so bring your best equipment and don’t be stingy on the haywire grenades.

Handover will be brokered by the CRAG - yeah, I know I know you all hate processing fees, but trust me you don’t want to try and do this direct. The client is paying for a controlled environment so you drop off your bounty with your nearest Guildship and we’ll handle the rest. Never forget the red-robes don’t think like you and I; they’ll honour a contract when we’re backing it, but you look an awful lot like a servitor waiting to happen to them.

* Sharre Ajax [Remains at Large] [Wanted: Alive or Dead]
For the Crimes of: Arch-Heresy, Recidivism, Membership of a Proscribed Organisation (Rising Flame), Incitement to rebellion against his lawful Imperial Masters, attacks on Imperial citizenry and infrastructure, illegal acquisition of Militarum-grade equipment and numerous other charges.

In case it’s passed your notice, there’s been a ‘’lot’’ of RF activity. We’ve got a good few outstanding warrants and small fry bounties on pretty much any RF you can drag into an Arbites or Guild outpost with evidence they were are bad’un - but nothing pays like the big man himself. Nobody has had sight of Ajax since before the silence, but the bounty on him is backed by House Durovera money so there’s value in hunting down a corpse if it comes to that and you can gene-screen it to prove it’s him. Honestly, at this stage it looks like the Arbites and the Governor would pay good money just to know how afraid they need to be of their boogeyman.

* Jareth Quill & Aemme Weaver [Wanted: Alive]
For the Crimes of: Eloping without Sanction of the Adeptus Astra Telepathica, Polluting the purity of the Terran genetic standard, Absconding with Adeptus Astra Telepathica Property (Quill), Dereliction of Duty to His Majesties Adeptus Astra Telepathica (Weaver), Numerous crimes against the Houses of Monacus and the Monacus Guild of Coin, Bringing Shame to an Imperial Office, Evading Arrest.

I know a couple of you, especially you two, you know who you are - are really keen on keeping this hunt updated and we’re doing our best, but turns out there’s not ‘only so many’ gambling houses you can defraud before you run out of them because a Sector is a constantly shifting web of enterprises. A shout out to two of our newest hunters who are always ONE step behind these two, keep it going! You’ll catch them soon.

++ Instructions from the Lord-Inquisitor ++

** These reports may be no longer than one page in total;
** These reports may make one recommendation for future action;
** Such recommendations will be considered for action if they do not conflict with the mission command team’s recommendations.

++ Judgements of the Conclave ++
By the writ of the Holy Conclave of the Inquisition in the Prosperitas Sector the following judgements are to be recognised by all parties;

++ On Nivalis ++

++ Rumours ++

++ Notes ++

++ Rescinded Bounties ++

The following bounties are rescinded.

Cadmium Redd - Sorry Hunters, looks like the Big I beat you all to her. Let’s not give up hope though; it wouldn’t be the first time she’s slipped out of the hands of even one of their Agents.

++ Active Bounties ++
The following bounties remain active for collection.

House-Scion Mitra Qureshi [Wanted: Alive for Interrogation]
For the Crimes of: Theft of Holy Ordinance and Proprietary Technologies of Naximus Prime, dereliction of duty to the Legio Custodii Incudem, falsely wearing the adornments of a bonded Knight-Scion, aiding of disruptive anti-labour elements and treason against her bound Masters under the Sidon Protocols.

Magos Aleph 82608 Satyajit [Wanted: Alive for Interrogation]
For the Crimes of: Theft of Holy Ordinance and Proprietary Technologies of Naximus Prime, dereliction of duty to the Legio Custodii Incudem, aiding of disruptive anti-labour elements, and breaking of oaths to Forge and Faith.

Knight-Scion Archeleus Zahak [Wanted: Alive for Interrogation]
For the Crimes of: Aiding disruptive anti-labour elements, treason against their bound Masters under the Sidon Protocols and association with known Hereteks.

House-Scion Ki’ara Shahi-Quereshi [Wanted: Alive for Interrogation]
For the Crimes of: Aiding disruptive anti-labour elements, treason against her bound Masters under the Sidon Protocols and association with known Hereteks.

Channel-Capacity-Is-Proportional-To-Bandwidth Levinson [Wanted: Alive for Interrogation]

Sharre Ajax [Remains at Large] [Wanted: Alive or Dead]

Jareth Quill & Aemme Weaver [Wanted: Alive]
